Volunteers

We are full timers and with the market in a nose dive are thinking about doing work on the road. I went to the volunteer.gov website and there are loads of positions there. My dumb question is - Are volunteers paid or are these positions for people who can give their time for free? Thanks for any help you can give. 2004 Alfa Ideal 38' 5th wheel 2005 F450

RE: Nashville,Tn. to Flagstaff,Az.

All of the above. Plus we always stop at exit 47 in New Mexico - Continental Divide. Just a trading post there but it is the point where rivers run east or west. Also in Amarillo, TX - exit 68a - Cadillacs buried nose down and painted all different colors. Can park along the frontage road and walk to it. 2004 Alfa Ideal 38' 5th wheel 2005 F450

Hwy 380 New Mexico

We are in Ruidoso, NM and would like to go to Albuquerque via west on Hwy 380 and north on I 25. Our Mountain Directory book describes the road between Carrizozo and Bingham (380) as "very poor - narrow and rough". Has anyone traveled this route in a big rig. What's your opinion? 2004 Alfa Ideal 38' 5th wheel 2005 F450

RE: Towing and parking 5'er

The first thing my husband and I did after purchasing our 5th wheel was to sign up for 2 days of insturctions. Learned lots from Vern who drove an Albertson semi for many years. The one thing I really remember is the mantra "knees to corner". When making a right turn don't start the turn until your knees are at the corner. In 4 years and many thousand miles I've never cut a corner or made a dent or scrape on the right side. Wish I could say the same for the left side. But that's another story. RE: Dometic Recall - NO LONGER REPLACING COOLING UNIT

We had our recall done in OR last July. In August one of the refrig failed. That's when I did some research and found out about the silly recall 'fix' they were doing. I called Camping World to ask about replacement. They said they would charge 1 hr to check it out and hourly labor to install the unit because Dometic only paid them to remove it not install it. When we got to Vegas for the winter we went to Johnnie Walker RV. They checked it out, ordered a new one, replaced it - no charge. So you may want to call around if the unit fails even after the recall is done. I've heard alot of them have. 2004 Alfa Ideal 38' 2005 F450

Good News from the Road

Just wanted to share some 'good happenings'. We are fulltimers and stopped overnight at Blake Ranch in Kingman, AZ. When setting out for Flagstaff the next morning we noticed one of our tires was low on air. We pulled into the Petro truck stop at exit 66 to get some air. Although this is for large semis, the mechanic on duty said he would take a look. He insisted on looking for a leak and had to remove the tire. He found a cracked rim. He asked if we had a spare and he went ahead and put that on. When my husband asked the cost, he just waved his hand and said, "Don't worry about it. You folks have a safe trip." It is so nice to meet these people along the way. Not everyone is out to get you. Our thanks go out to the ones who care and make life on the road so much nicer. 2004 Alfa Ideal 38' 2005 F450

Boulder Dam Crossing

Has anyone gone over the Boulder Dam recently? Leaving Vegas on Sunday for Flagstaff, AZ. Usually come and leave Vegas via CA. Are there any delays crossing the Dam? And how is the drive for a big rig. 2004 Alfa Ideal 38' 2005 F450
